Facebook Video Chat Could Impact Landline Use

The addition of Facebook’s video chat service could have an impact on the already declining use of telephone landlines in the U.S. 

Opus Research Analyst Greg Sterling says people may just not to pick up the phone because they can have a much more satisfying experience “face to face.”  Less than half of U.S. homes still have a landline.  Sterling also believes Skype could take a hit in their business model.  The Facebook feature is powered by Skype’s technology, but the social networking site has many more users.
