Cable Companies Cracking Down On Pirates

Internet service providers are cracking down on illegal downloads.

Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision and AT&T are among the companies joining a new industry anti-piracy effort.  Under the deal, they will warn customers up to six times when their accounts are used to download movies, music or TV shows illegally.  Customers who continue to pirate copyrighted items could have their Internet service slowed down or suspended until they contact the company.  Customers will be able to get an independent review of their downloads if they think they’ve been wrongly accused of online piracy.  The effort is being applauded by representatives of the entertainment industry and the White House.
