Microsoft may release a new version of its Windows operating system next year.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer spilled the beans about Windows 8 yesterday at a developers conference in Tokyo. Ballmer also indicated Windows 8 slates, tablets and PCs could be coming to the market. The company later backtracked, telling PCMag.com the Microsoft CEO misspoke at the Tokyo event. A spokesperson said, quote, “We are eagerly awaiting the next generation of Windows 7 hardware that will be available in the coming fiscal year. To date, we have yet to formally announce any timing or naming for the next version of Windows.”
