Facebook denies a newly announced security issue allowed advertisers to access private user data.
“The Wall Street Journal” reports the issue has been identified by Symantec Corp which produces computer virus checking and other software. Symantec says Facebook applications that let users play games, shop and participate in other Facebook activities gave outside companies a sort of cyber spare key to user’s account information. Symantec claims the vulnerability lasted for years and affected nearly 100-thousand Facebook apps. Once Facebook was told about the problem the network took steps to plug it. A Facebook spokeswoman told the “Journal,” “A thorough investigation” found no evidence that a user’s private information was shared with third parties.
