Blackberry is getting into the tablet computer game.
Parent company Research In Motion says its entry into the tablet space will be called the BlackBerry PlayBook — and will start selling next month in the U.S. and Canada. The release date is April 19 and the least-expensive model will be $499 — same price as the cheapest iPad, made by Apple. RIM says customers can start pre-ordering the PlayBook through Best Buy. The tablet has a 7-inch screen, runs BlackBerry software and can connect to a BlackBerry — acting as a bigger screen for the popular brand of smartphones. RIM calls it the first “professional-grade tablet.”
