Analysts estimate Apple sold nearly one-million of its new iPad 2 tablet computers over the product’s debut weekend.
The original iPad didn’t reach the one-million mark until 28 days after its April launch last year. The iPad 2 went on sale Friday night at a number of retail locations including Apple stores, AT&T and Verizon Wireless outlets, Target and Wal-Mart. The newest iPad is thinner, faster and features a pair of cameras for video chat.
Some tech industry analysts say the iPad 2’s early success could lead to a tablet computer bubble, with supply outstripping demand by more than 30 percent. Samsung and Motorola have already launched tablet devices. Companies like Hewlett-Packard are set to release tablet computers in the coming months.
